Meditation Unlocked: The Key to Mental Clarity & Emotional Strength (Meditation 101: Q&A)

How Meditation Became My Anchor in Life’s Storms  (MEDITATION 101)

The day is April 26th I am stressed out because I have to come up with $700 dollars for my landlord or else he is going to ask me to leave. On top of that I got turned down for a job, well to be more specific after signing a job offer and providing my professional and family and friends references for a Personal Training Job at my local Fitness Club I was e-mail from HR Rep titling Pre-Adverse Notice. AKA because of your past behaviors and mistakes we are withdrawing your job application from the process. This shook me to my core for a few days, making me spiral out of control and shut down in isolation.

This was something I was telling my friends and family I would be doing proudly and also something that was supposed to help fix my financial burdens I was facing. Struggling to be positive and even stay up to date with all of my priorities and things I need to attend to. Days like this I have a hard time concentrating and focus. It creates this ripple effect in my life and I get upset, angry, sad, fearful, and dread telling people in my life what I am facing. I pretty much shut down and begin to isolate. I try to solve several key things and tell myself that everything is going to be okay and that I will pay the land lord in full and also I will get going on more job interviews and that this rough patch will come to an end soon.

What if I told you that there was a time for me actually a lifetime that I was that guy that would shut down in situations like this and isolate. Mainly turn to alcohol and substances and self-sabotage my whole entire existence. Blame everyone and everything for all that is going wrong. I would tell myself several hundred reasons why I wasn't supposed to have that job I would be better without it and those people and a bunch of other things that would try to justify the situation so that I could feel better inside and have my head up facing reality.

My current situation is a little different from what I just spoke of. Today I can pause when agitated and face my fears, and life head on, not alone of course. Today I have friends and family and mentors in place for just that when situations like this come up. I also have and use tools to my advantage. Tools like meditation and reading. Meditation is a tricky thing because when you feel shame and fear like I described you ask yourself to be sitting in silence right now something that will make me feel better or help me process any thing?

BUT  FIRST I WANT YOU TO EMBRACE MY JOURNEY

Breath by Breath: My Journey to Healing Through Meditation
Mini Q&A: My Meditation Journey and How It’s Changed My Life
Q: How did you get started with meditation, and what motivated you?
A: I started meditating about 3 months ago during a particularly stressful time. I was feeling overwhelmed and anxious, and a part of a 12-Step program I belong to spoke about miracles of the Practice of Meditation. At first, I was skeptical, I thought meditation was too “out there” for me. But after just a few 2-minute sessions, I noticed I felt calmer and more focused. That small shift motivated me to stick with it, and now it’s a daily habit that helps me navigate life’s ups and downs.

Q: What’s one life situation where meditation made a big difference?
A: Last month, I was facing financial problems and got turned down after signing a job offer. Normally, I’d react impulsively and get upset. But because I’d been meditating regularly, I paused, took a few deep breaths, and approached the situation calmly. Meditation helped me stay present and respond with patience instead of frustration it was a game-changer for keeping the peace.

Q: How has meditation impacted your mental health?
A: Meditation has been like a mental reset button. I used to struggle with anxiety, especially at night when my mind would race, I still do but I don't let it get the best of me, daily. Now, I use a short guided meditation (LIGHT INCENTS) before bed, and it’s helped me sleep better and wake up feeling refreshed. I also feel more in tune with my emotions I’m not as quick to spiral into worry, and I’m better at recognizing when I need a moment to breathe.

Q: What’s one challenge you faced while meditating, and how did you overcome it?
A: Early on, I found it hard to sit still and focus my mind kept wandering to my past and present fear and traumas. I thought I was “bad” at meditation. Then that it’s normal for thoughts to pop up, and the practice is about gently bringing your focus back. I started with shorter sessions, sometimes 1 minute which made it easier to stay on track. Over time, I’ve gotten better at letting distractions pass.

Q: How do you Meditate?
A: First off I am no pro, but someone that Meditation has proved to work and continue to work. I will say find somewhere that you can be alone preferably quiet for a few minutes with minimal distractions. Set a timer for one minute at least. Begin by focusing on one thing, your breathing or whatever helps you relax. Try not to think about anything, picture your Creator talking to you if you wish. Just practice being still and hearing your breathing. OR try a YouTube guided meditation or any health app.

Q: What advice would you give someone curious about meditation?
A: Start small try 2 minutes a day with a simple breathing exercise or a free app, or light incense like me. Don’t worry about doing it perfectly; just show up. Experiment with different styles, like mindfulness or body scans, to find what clicks for you. The key is consistency those small moments add up, and soon you’ll notice how much calmer and clearer you feel in everyday life.
